We have an open afternoon on the 12th November from 1:30 - 3:30pm for past, present and future pupils and their families.  Please feel free to come along.

Admission Policy 2010/11

The Governing Body of The Beacon Church of England Primary School is the admission authority.  Our planned admission number is 30.  The admission for reception children would normally be September or January depending on the age of the child. Children having their 5th birthday between 1st September and 28/29 February inclusive, start in the Autumn Term; Children having their 5th birthday between the 1st March and 31st August inclusive, start school at the beginning of Spring Term.   If you require a place for a child other than at these two points of entry please contact the school directly.

 

A map of the area served by the school (designated area) can be found at http://gis.devon.gov.uk/basedata/viewer.asp?DCCService=schools   The school is located in the Parish of Littleham cum Exmouth.  If you do not have access to the internet, your may view a map through our school office.

 

The information given in this policy is correct for the school year shown.  This could be altered for future years and we advise you to check that no amendments have been made.  The governors will review the policy annually.

 

THE ADMISSIONS TIMETABLE

 

The Local Authority (LA) operates a timetabled co-ordinated admissions procedure for all Primary Schools in line with government legislation.

 

The LA will manage the process on behalf of the school according to the scheme published each year. The Governing Body, as the Admission Authority, will allocate the available places in line with this policy.

 

The closing date for admission application forms to be received by the LA is stated in the First Steps booklet.  Information on completing the ‘on line’ application and notification dates of admission decisions are published in the LA Admissions Booklet, which is also available online at www.devon.gov.uk/admissionsonline

 

A supplementary form for applications to the school on religious faith grounds is available from the school office.  This is to confirm your place of worship.  It should be returned to the school by the closing date for admissions as stated in the First Steps booklet and on the online application form.

The Beacon Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School will admit children with statements of Special Educational Needs in which The Beacon CE (VA) Primary is named.  Any child admitted will count towards the Planned Admission Number (PAN).

 

 

OVERSUBSCRIPTION CRITERIA

 

If the school is oversubscribed, places will be offered in the following priority order:

 

  1. Children in Care1.
  1. ‘Siblings2’ of children who will be attending the school at the time of the applicant’s proposed admission, and residing in the designated area served by The Beacon.   
  1. ‘Siblings2’ of children who will be attending the school at the time of the applicant’s admission, but residing outside the designated area served by The Beacon. 

     

  1. Children whose families are faithful and regular worshippers in the churches of the Parish of Littleham cum Exmouth.  A school supplementary form should be completed at the time of application to confirm their place of worship and returned to the school.

     

  1. Children whose families are included in ‘Churches Together in England ’ and residing in the designated area served by The Beacon Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School.  A school supplementary form should be completed (see 4).

     

  1. Children whose families are included in ‘Churches Together in England ’ residing outside the designated area served by The Beacon.  A school supplementary form should be completed (see 4).

     

  1. Other Children living in the school’s designated area.

     

  1. Other children living outside the school’s designated area.

     

 

In the event of excessive applications and all applicants having equal merit, distance form the school will be the deciding factor.  Priority will be given to those living nearest the school (Distance in a straight line between the child’s home and the school main gate on Beacon Place, measured by the County Geographical Information System.) available at http://gis.devon.gov.uk/basedata/viewer.asp

The Beacon Church School serves its local community and welcomes all children irrespective of faith.

 

Church of England VA School Governing Bodies, as the legal Admissions Authority, determine pupil admissions to their schools.  Priorities for Admissions may include attendance at a church and the faith commitment of parents.  If you have nominated our school on your preference form (the form inside the First Step booklet), as a VA school you will need to complete this supplementary application form.  This will ensure that the school has the information it needs to apply its oversubscription criteria if the school receives more applications than it has places to offer.
