About our school...
We have approximately 155 pupils in our school, aged 4 - 11 years, organised into six classes. The school site has two buildings linked by a covered walkway. The original building now houses four classrooms, an addtional activity/teaching room, the library, an ICT room and the school offices. The second building consists of two classrooms and the hall. This is used for a range of activities including worship (assemblies), physical education and the eating of dinners. We have a kitchen on site which prepares meals daily.
Our location in the town and near the seafront allows us to make excellent use of the local environment. We regularly use the rugby ground, the town library, the estruary, beach, swimming pool and Church. Teaching and learning is really enhanced by these opportunities and experiences. Classes are mainly arranged into straight year groups however we do have 1 class where year groups are combined. All classes are mixed ability groups although setting by ability does occur where appropriate. No class exceeds 30 pupils. Pupils are well supported and challenged at The Beacon in their academic, personal and social development. We place great importance on the development of the whole child recognising and celebrating the strengths and achievements of all. We are proud of our links with Holy Trinity. As a Voluntary Aided school, founded by the church, we recieve financial support from the Diocese and a significant number of our Governors are church representatives. Father Ian leads worship in school on a weekly basis and we regularly worship in the church. Although we are a church school, we welcome all pupils regardless of their religious beliefs. We are an inclusive community valuing all for their contributions and individuality. We have a highly active Parent, Teacher and Friends Association who organise a range of social activities and fundraising events. For more information click here.
